Chris Toone is an award-winning humanitarian, professional athletic trainer, and self-proclaimed adventure enthusiast based in Ghana, West Africa. His creative work focuses on finding appreciation and beauty within every day life, regardless of location.
Always seeking to learn something new, Chris studied abroad on Semester at Sea in 2010, circumnavigating the globe while living on a ship for 110 days in the presence of Nobel Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu. It was during this time that he discovered his true passion; cross cultural connection and uncovering the beauty that each and every corner of this vast planet has to offer.
This period of his life inspired him to create Aya (formerly The Senase Project), a non-profit organization focused providing equal and equitable access to quality education. For the past decade, Aya has been opening doors for some of the most underserved communities in Ghana.
The adventure never stops in Chris’ life, nor does he want it to. He’s been stuck high up in the Andes during an earthquake in Chile, chased the Northern Lights through the backroads of Finnish Lapland, worked alongside Olympic athletes around the world, was once stranded and homeless in Tokyo, and even was gifted a goat by a village Chief in return for holding local Government authorities accountable in their promise to build classrooms for the farming community. Don’t worry; the goat was later released and Chris prefers to stick with the thought that the animal is now roaming free, traveling between farms.
In 2018 Chris was awarded the Humanitarian Alumni Award from Ithaca College and was later inducted into Williamsville South High School’s Wall of Fame in 2019 (Williamsville, NY), for his non-profit endeavors. He studied athletic training at Ithaca College and University of Utah before spending three years working and traveling with the United States National Ski Team. Chris has since made the jump to the soccer world and most recently accepted a role with Right to Dream Academy in Ghana and has resided in West Africa since 2022.
